While his outstretched arm is meant to hold a massive, knotted club of defence, local lore tells us that on warm, moonlit nights, the giant secretly drops his weapon to slip away to the ancient \"Trendle\" earthwork atop his hill. Leaving his fearsome warrior persona behind, he becomes a patron of dance, moving with surprisingly light, booming steps to the rhythm of the wind. Generations of villagers claim that whenever they hear the distant, low thudding of the earth on Midsummer\u2019s Eve, it isn't thunder at all, but the joyful giant doing the jig.
